George Chanko
I (George Chanko) wanted to create a piece of art, a drawing that is nationalistic and represents our Assyrian nation.
The first thought I got was, that if a historian was to write about the Assyrian history he would use a pen and a paper, to write 500 - 1000 pages, he would write about the great Assyrian history that is around 7000 years old.
My thought was that a painter must be able to create the same work by using a pencil and painting colours. (We must not forget that a picture can tell us over a thousands words). However, if a painter was to draw all of our history in a way similar to the historian who writes about it, he would have to start to draw from the first king and important events, and later continue to the next king and other events that have taken place there, and so on. And continue like this all the way until modern times. This would probably demand the painter to draw around 500 – 1000 drawings, to describe it all. A person must be able to look at all these pictures and read our history trough his vision. If a painter would want to do all this he would have to live over 500 years and spend all of his life working with this, and then maybe be able to achieve this goal.
